The Dan Dugan Model E Automatic Mixing Controller is an eight-channel signal processor designed to automatically manage multiple live microphones in unscripted dialogue situations (like news panels, debates, or conferences), effectively acting as an “invisible” sound engineer by eliminating the need for a mixer to constantly ride faders. The Model E is a compact, half-rack size unit that patches into the insert points of a standard audio mixing console using 1/4-inch TRS cables. It uses Dan Dugan’s patented “Speech System” algorithm to detect which microphone is being used at any given moment and makes fast, transparent cross-fades, ensuring only one microphone (or a shared number of mics) is at full gain. This process dramatically reduces feedback, studio noise, and comb filtering artifacts common when many microphones are open simultaneously, while maintaining a natural room ambiance. Read more
